Basic Formatting Information

The formatting toolbar above the edit window makes it easy to add basic formatting to your text.

• To bold text, select the text, then click the B button on the formatting toolbar -- or put the text within three single quote marks, e.g.:
text
• To italicize text, select the text, then click the I button on the formatting toolbar -- or put the text within two single quote marks, e.g.:
text
• To add a heading, select the text, then click the A button on the formatting toolbar -- or put the text within two equal signs, e.g.:
== Text ==
• To create a bulleted list, place an * in front of the text you want to follow each bullet, e.g.:
* text
• To create a numbered list, place a # in front of the text you want to follow each number, e.g.:
# text
• To add an internal link (within the wiki), put double brackets ( ) around the text you want to be the link. This creates a page named the same as the text in the brackets, e.g.:
Name of Link
• To add an internal link (within the wiki) that displays different text then the name of the link, put double brackets ( ) around the name of the page you want to link to followed by a vertical line and then the text you would like displayed, e.g.:
Linked Text to Display
• To create a link to a media file (typically a PDF file), use the following code:

• To add a link to an external site, select the text you want to be the link, click the globe button on the formatting toolbar, then paste the URL for the link into the brackets before the text. Be sure there is a space between the URL and the text. A link looks like this in the edit window:
BYU Home Page
