Category:Rev. H. S. Fagan
Reverend Henry Stuart Fagan was an author in the Victorian era who was concerned with religious politics contemporary with his time. Not much is known about him, except that he also contributed to Belgravia and The Gentleman’s Magazine.
Belgravia was a short fiction magazine intended for upper class audiences, but which often attracted a middle class readership, while The Gentleman’s Magazine was a prestigious periodical intended for educated audiences. The common subject matter of Gentelman’s included current events and a study of the Latin language, and gained fame when "Doctor" Samuel Johnson contributed to it for a time.
It is likely that Fagan, who had previously contributed to Gentelman’s, was asked to write a piece for Belgravia in an effort to attract upper class readers, since his story differs extremely from the magazine's usual content. His piece in Belgravia makes reference to current events in French and British missions and includes phrases in both Latin and French, revealing him as a very educated and well-informed author.
