Title: Sunshine Editor: Rev. W. Meynell Whittemore Publisher: London, William Macintosh

Overview: This monthly publication was first printed in 1862 for the price of one penny. The intended audience of this magazine is children. Sunshine tends to have a Christian undertone, which is not surprising because its editor is a clergyman. The magazine always has a picture on the front that takes up most of the first page. These pictures do an excellent job of enticing the children because they always depict a scene from the first story. There is always another picture that can be found later in the magazine that goes along with another one of the stories. In addition to stories, the magazine almost always contains a poem or two for the children to enjoy. One of the most interesting parts of this publication comes at the very end, in the “Things Worth Knowing” section. It is a short section containing fun facts for kids to know. Each issue ends with a note from the editor in which he addresses the parents and people who support the magazine. In these addresses Whittemore takes the time to thank his patrons for their support of the magazine as well as to inform them of upcoming events and features in future magazines.
